Technology Standards for Teachers and Students

I am interested in discussing the subject of Technology Standards for teachers and students. Standards can focus and encourage staff and student improvement by specifying the goals. How are the districts using the existing national technology standards to plan for staff and student improvement?

Web Resources from Steve Prull

Steve has been doing tons of research, and he sent out the following links this afternoon for some detailed resources in WA, which has been running a 1:1 for the past three years.

The links are here: Laptop docs
and here: Administrator Resources

Thank you Steve, for passing these along!!

Oregon K-12 Online Forum

I have been having interesting discussions with others relating to the use of online forums. My focus has been trying to find, or promote, the creation of a single sign-on, online forum to discuss a variety of educational and technology topics with other Oregon educators and technology support staff. While this site and the ORVSD site both have excellant discussion groups for their topics, I believe the educational community could benefit from the online discussions on many other topics of interest. Is anyone aware of the existance of such an online forum? Does anyone else agree that this could be a valuable communication tool for the Oregon educational community and its partners?

Documents and Initial Summary of the First DQ Work Group

Attached here are documents reviewed at the first Data Quality work group meeting today, Jan 22.

Included is the federal Longitudinal Data System RFP, which is the first focus for the group. Also attached is a draft application plan document to track roles and responsibilities for application contributors.

The ESD Regional Data Model Draft document was presented as a starting point for discussion about HOW a proposed data program might be delivered. That conversation was tabled in order to focus on the WHAT would be delivered. Or, better said, energy turned to identifying primary goal(s) for the data program/proposal and grant application.

The following is a very preliminary yield of the goal discussion: This proposal seeks to improve data quality across the Oregon education enterprise, for the purpose of improving the education experience of every Oregon student in the P-20 system. The development and deployment of a comprehensive data system that delivers timely, relevant data, and supports meaningful data analysis, will allow Oregon educators and students to realistically expect ever-improving teaching and learning at all levels of the P-20 system.
