Smart Products Grant

This might be over the top in terms of how much our 6th grade teachers can take on in one year but I thought I'd post the link all the same.

From: http://smarterkids.org/k12/connections/

Teachers and students from the participating classrooms collaborate on curriculum-based projects with the goal of encouraging mutual respect and understanding among students in North America. The SMARTer Kids Foundation of Canada equips participating schools with education technology for easy, effective collaboration and provides teacher professional development. The program culminates in the spring when teachers and select students visit Calgary, Alberta, Canada, for a week of friendship, adventure and learning.

Laptops replace books...

Replacing books with computers shows promise

The books are open at Wendler Middle School -- MacBooks, that is.

Sixty seventh-graders there have received free-to-use laptops. They can't take them home, yet. But they haul them around between classes, use them for note-taking and other assignments, and tap into wireless Internet for easy research and browsing.

The theory: Give children constant access to technology and they will read more often, learn better and have fun doing it. Wendler is one of 48 Alaska schools in 18 school districts trying this techie approach. The project is run by the Association of Alaska School Boards and mostly paid for by a grant from the state Legislature.

RSS to email list

For some folks it's hard to remember to check in with a web site. With all the things we are all doing on a daily basis, it's easy to forget. It IS important though that we communicate and learn from what all the other 1:1 sites are doing.

So... I created an RSS to email list. This is a simple mailing list that will collect news from the 1:1 site here on K12Partners.org and deliver it to you twice a day. (I'm still working on the timing of delivery). This way you'll receive a daily notice of new posts to the 1:1 site.

To subscribe to the list, just fill in the form below.

I'm also working with Leslie on a way to archive the email messages we're sending to each other. More to come on that later. ;-) Paul
